On Friday, December 17, 2021, the Employment Training Panel (ETP) approved additional funding for El Camino College in the amount of $1,511,016. This funding was the result of California’s Governor Newsom’s May 2021 budget, which was revised to support the UpSkill California Community College Collaborative’s request for $15 million to work directly with ETP. The amount received by El Camino College through ETP was a portion of this fund.
ETP is the state’s premier program supporting job creation and retention through training. ETP fulfills its mission by reimbursing the cost of employer-driven training for incumbent workers and funding training for unemployed workers, which is designed to help them re-enter the workforce. All courses are designed to increase efficiencies, enhance productivity, and reduce costs allowing the business to remain competitive in a global economy. This expanded funding for the community colleges provides unprecedented opportunities for California’s employers to bring additional and enhanced training to its workers.
El Camino College will use the approved funding to expand its reach into new industry sectors and increase employee training delivery to its established base in manufacturing and aerospace. Jose Anaya, Dean, Community Advancement & Business Training Center at El Camino College said, “We have prepared for this anticipated increase in funding by laying the groundwork for an expanded portfolio of training programs that will provide industry with a pipeline of skilled workers with competencies in cloud computing, cybersecurity, and smart manufacturing. Additionally, in the Spring of 2022 we will begin offering training in new and emerging technologies such as real-time 3D virtual production technologies, which are in-demand in the film and entertainment industries.
In addition, a part of the new funding will be shared with Cerritos College and Pasadena City College as training partners to serve their area business affected by the pandemic.
